Oh how often are we determined to do things on our own only at the end to be severely disappointed by the results.    Many people get saved and give the preacher their hands but refuse to give God their hearts.

What I love about God is that although He knows what is best for us, He has all the attributes of a perfect gentleman and will not force us to do anything.   It’s called free will.   While God is responsible for the fact of that freedom we are responsible for the acts of that freedom.

And to be honest with you my friend, I’ve made a lot of mistakes doing my own thing and not consorting Him first.  But I’ve reached a point in my life now that I understand the Father (God) really knows what’s best for me.    Yes, I think I know what I want and what I want to be, and I believe I know what I need.  But God really knows.  He’s knows the ending from the beginning.   So, I’ve given Him full reign over my heart, over my desires and over my will.    Whatever His desire is for my life, I’ve given Him permission to override my will … even if it’s the best job offer I’ve ever had … and even if I’m three weeks away from getting married.

I know this is not easy but you’re going to have to trust Him too.  There’s no need in getting saved and allowing God in your living room but granting no access to the other parts of your house.  He can’t come in your kitchen, you won’t allow Him in your bedroom and your closet is “off-limits.”  C’mon  –  is that how we’re going to handle Him?

Say this with me, “God, I give you permission to override my will.”   C’mon, say it once more with me, “God, I give you permission to override my will.”    Ok, one last time, “God, I give you permission to override my will.”

There’s a song I fell in love with the very first time I heard it … “Hide Me”  by Pastor Bruce Parham.  Strangely, the most heart-wrenching part were these words “Hide me from the enemy.  Even if the enemy you hide is in me.

So – now I say, engulf my will in yours.  Submerse my desires in the overflow of your love.  Let your will be done and everything else in my life become secondary!

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  Philippians 2:13″
